About James

Built by an athlete who got tired of guessing.

James Harrison has been training for over 25 years. After decades of trial and error — and a lot of bad advice — he started building the tools he actually needed: a platform that combines his real training data with AI capable of reasoning about it.

He's an NPC natural competitor currently prepping for nationals, an NSCA-CPT candidate, and an AI consultant who builds client-facing AI products professionally. Gymmy is the intersection of all three.

Everything on this platform is real. The weight logs are his actual weigh-ins. The workouts are from his Hevy account. The macro targets are what he's actually eating. This is how he trains — and he built the app to show it.

Common questions

QDo I need to sign up to use the app?

No. You can browse all of James's data — workouts, weight logs, macros, progress — without creating an account. Sign up only when you want to save your own data.

QIs Gymmy only for bodybuilders or NPC competitors?

Not at all. It's useful for any evidence-based athlete — powerlifters, general fitness, or anyone who wants to track training data alongside an AI coach. The competition features are optional.

QWhat is Hevy and do I need it?

Hevy is a free workout tracking app. James logs all his training there, which syncs to Gymmy automatically. You don't need Hevy to use Gymmy — but if you want your own workout data to appear here, you connect your Hevy API key in Settings.

QHow does the AI coach work?

The coach is powered by GPT-4o via the Vercel AI Gateway. Every session is primed with a system prompt that includes your current weight, today's macros, competition timeline, Hevy connection status, and any custom coaching goals you've written in Settings.

QIs my personal data private?

Yes. Your weight logs, macros, photos, and measurements are only visible to you when logged in. James's data is publicly visible by design — he's made it available as a reference for the community.

QIs Gymmy free?

Yes, currently free. James built this as his personal platform and as a showcase for AI-integrated fitness tooling. If it grows into a coaching product, pricing will be introduced transparently.
